Khaled El Mays - Sideboard restoration

Khaled El Mays is a Beriut based multi-disciplinary artist focused on furniture design. Unfortunately this piece suffered severe water damage due to a crate that leaked water in. The black water stains were quite deep and has to be sanded out. The top is veneered and the stains were deeper than the veneer was thick, so the top and legs were faux finished to match the natural white oak. The legs being MFD core swole up and grew 5/8” in height on one side and 3/8” on the other and the stolen wood broke the brass band off of the leg. The leg material was dried and trimmed to the correct height and the brass reattached. Approaching these restorations from an artists perspective allows me to be more creative with solutions that can help to drive down labor costs and yield better results.
